They love each other...

I found these pictures today as I was going through some photos for scrapbooking and they cracked me up! =)

This is Luke and his cousin. 3 months apart and for the longest time Luke didn't even acknowledge his existence. Either that or he knew he was there but didn't acknowledge that he was a human being. He would step on him and hit him, just thinking he was an object. I'm glad they are becoming better friends now that they can both walk and talk and play!

My craft for this week...

I have 2 new shirts in my closet...made by ME! Well, Kind of...

This one started out being a long sleeved scoop neck tee. So I didn't ACTUALLY make it, I just embellished it. I cut off the sleeves and used the sleeve fabric to make the ruffles. This shirt was 4 dollars on clearance at Target! Woo!

I followed this tutorial and kinda made up some of my own rules too.

I got this shirt for 5 bucks also. I really like the fit of these shirts from Tilly's so I buy one in each color. But it's so boring just to have 5 of the same shirts! So this refashioning thing is really working out well.

For this shirt I just added ruffles, a strip of fabric to the middle and some buttons. I followed this tutorial, again making adjustments.

I'm not thrilled with how this one turned out. I thought if I put ruffles all down the front like in the tutorial that it would accentuate bulges that I don't want accentuated. But I'm not in love with how it turned out. Hey, at least it was only 5 bucks right!?

My first shirt refashion

I have known how to sew since I was really young, but I hated it. I hated following patterns so precisely only to get a bulky shirt that doesn't fit precisely AT ALL. So when I stumbled across the idea of refashions (taking something old and ugly [essentially] and making it new and cute) I was excited. Less work, and NO PATTERNS.

My first refashion was from a shirt I got for Todd. He didn't like it so I snagged it.
I laid a shirt on top of it (one that I like the fit of) and cut around it, leaving space for hemming and some extra because of the differences of stretchyness in the materials.

I kept the same sleeves, just cut them shorter.

Sewed it all together and added some pleats to the top...

This is my attempt at a self portrait...HORRIBLE! I'm supposed to be good at photography!

My inspiration came from this tutorial. It didn't come out perfect, but I am so excited that I finally tried it. That I got out my sewing machine and learned how to thread it. Be prepared for more in the near future!

The week I wait for all year........

Okay, I can not keep this recipe to myself any longer(not that I have really tried)! Todd and I love Love LOVE corned beef and cabbage. Before I was married to him I had NEVER had it in my life! In our 3 St. Patty's days since we've been married we have tried a vast array of recipes and dishes of corned beef. One year we even braved the anarchy of an Irish pub to get our corned beef fix. That's about as good as it gets, right? Wrong!!! Last year we made this recipe and I am confident in saying that it is the only corned beef we will eat for the rest of our lives!!! It is the best! I urge you to make this stuff! If you've never had corned beef, try it. If you make it, let me know how you liked it!

P.S. Eat it with mustard!!! Yummmmm.......
